Brides and Grooms Say ‘I Do’ to Charity

It’s wedding season, and an increasing number of charities and other organizations are offering brides and grooms a way to use their big day to help others.

The I Do Foundation is a Washington nonprofit group that enables couples to set up an online registry where their guests can give to a cause of the couple’s choosing.

Another charity that seeks to use weddings to promote charity is Brides Against Breast Cancer, created in 1998 by a Fran Hansen and her daughter, Anna Nelson.

The charity collects donated wedding gowns and sells them to raise money at events in more than 30 cities nationwide. For instance, next month in Snohomish, Wash., prospective brides can pay $150 to bring along two guests to enjoy refreshments and live music as they browse through hundreds of gowns offered at cut-rate prices.
