  • Forbes ranks 200 charities by three measures (December 9): how much of its budget comes from donors versus how much comes from sales of goods and services and the performance of its investments, what share was spent on charitable programs, and what percentage was spent to raise money. In addition, the magazine examines the salaries of top officials and finds that average pay raises of chief executives of nonprofit groups rose by 8.5 percent last year. The rankings and other articles on charities are available at http://www.forbes.com.
  • Smart Money (December) also ranks charities. It examines 100 of the nation’s largest nonprofit organizations by the amount they spent on programs and fund raising, and by the percentage of their budget that went into a reserve fund. The article and rankings are available at http://www.smartmoney.com.
