Britain Accused of Discriminating Against Charities in Other Countries
July 13, 2006
The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, has threatened to sue the British government, saying it wrongly discriminated against charities established outside the country, reports The Times, in London.
Under the country’s laws, British residents can obtain tax benefits solely for donating to a charity registered in Britain. The commission said the rule amounts to illegal discrimination. The article does not provide a response from the British government.
