BRITISH MUSEUM

February 9, 2006

The British Museum unveils today a 1,200-year-old Anglo-Saxon coin purchased for $630,000 with donations from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and other charities, reports the Associated Press. To keep it in British hands, the government had placed a temporary export ban on the coin, which was discovered in 2001. The heritage fund contributed $405,000 toward the purchase.
