Businesses Offer Employees Chance to Work at Charities

A growing number of businesses are beginning to offer employees sabbaticals during which they can work at nonprofit groups, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The companies hope that the programs will help them strengthen leadership skills in their workers, boost employee morale, improve the company’s image, and attract talented employees.

Companies take a wide range of approaches to handling employees on sabbatical. Cisco Systems places employees at education organizations for a year at full salary, while Accenture employees are paid only half their normal wage—and nonprofit groups have to pay a fee to play host to the Accenture consultants.
