A man who opened fire on California Highway Patrol officers in July 2010 while on a self-described mission to “start a revolution” by killing officials at liberal nonprofit organizations was sentenced Thursday to 401 years and four months in prison, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Byron Williams, 48, of Groveland, Calif., was found guilty last month on four counts of attempted murder and weapons violations in connection with the gun battle that erupted after he was stopped for speeding and driving erratically on an interstate in Oakland.
After his arrest Mr. Williams told authorities he had been on his way to San Francisco to kill the leaders of area offices of the American Civil Liberties Union and environmental group the Tides Foundation.
