Calif. Hospitals Sue Blue Cross
May 9, 2006
Five nonprofit hospitals have filed a lawsuit against Blue Cross, alleging that the insurer approved medical care for patients but later refused to cover the expenses, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The suit, filed Monday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, follows several similar lawsuits by more than two dozen former Blue Cross members, the paper reports.
A spokesman for Blue Cross’s parent company, WellPoint Inc. of Indianapolis, did not comment on the suit but told the Times that Blue Cross’s relationship with the hospitals was “very important.” Blue Cross has denied wrongdoing in the previous lawsuits.
