Calif. Man Charged with Fleecing Disability Group’s Clients

A former official with a Bay Area organization serving the developmentally disabled was arrested Monday on charges of embezzling $400,000 from the charity’s clients, writes The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, Calif.

Larry Gene Sark, 66, of Santa Rosa allegedly pocketed funds from 51 clients of the North Bay Regional Center, which provides services and support to developmentally disabled people in three Northern California counties. Mr. Sark retired in December 2012 as the center’s client program coordinator.

Police said they suspect Mr. Sark requested Social Security funds from the center on behalf of his clients, a routine procedure to help them make incidental purchases, then deposited the money in his own bank account. He was charged with fiduciary abuse of a dependent adult and jailed on a $500,000 bond.
