California Fund Awards $16 Million for Opioid-Abuse Treatment (Grants Roundup)

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Center at Sierra Health Foundation
$16.4 million to the Medication Assisted Treatment Access Points Project, which aims to expand prevention, treatment, and recovery services for people with substance- or opioid-use disorders throughout California.
Houston Endowment
$10 million partial challenge grant to Good Reason Houston to match $3 million in gifts from companies and foundations to improve public-school performance in the Houston area.
UnitedHealth Group
$8.3 million over five years to the Atlanta University Center Consortium to augment data-science courses at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, and Spelman College.
S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation
$3.1 million to California State University to create a scholarship that will pay for a residency year of service for teachers of kindergarten through 12th grade in California.
Conrad N. Hilton Foundation
$3 million to the National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company to support operations of the Global Sisters Report, an online news publication for Catholic nuns.
Home Depot Foundation
$2.1 million pledge to Volunteers of America to create new and better housing for military veterans and their families in six states.
A. James and Alice B. Clark Foundation
$2 million to the National Academy of Engineering to expand EngineerGirl, its program to offer STEM education for girls and women.
Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust
$1.7 million grant to 4YouandMe to study the impact of stress on symptoms of Crohn’s disease.
New Grant Opportunity
The GHR Foundation is committing a total of $1 million in seed grants through its BridgeBuilder Challenge, offered to nonprofit groups worldwide that work with and provide services to refugees and immigrant groups. Each project must be developed in collaboration with individuals experiencing displacement, begun within a 36-month timeline, and under a budget of $200,000. Proposals are due by August 17.
