One of Canada’s richest families has donated $50-million to launch an institute to finance new treatments for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other brain disorders, reports the Canadian Press.
The W. Garfield Weston Foundation said in announcing the gift last week that the Weston Brain Institute will make fast-track grants to support what the philanthropy termed high-risk, high-reward research on neurodegenerative diseases.
The Weston family owns Canada’s largest supermarket chain, Loblaw, among other businesses.
