Hans-Peter Wild, a German-born billionaire whose family business developed Capri Sun and built the citrus beverage into a worldwide brand, has donated $16.5 million to a charity that offers education assistance to the children of Marine Corps and Navy veterans, The Washington Post writes.

The gift to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation will benefit 3,000 students over the next decade, said Margaret Davis, president of the Alexandria, Va.-based nonprofit. Mr. Wild, who was born during World War II, said the U.S. military’s liberation of Germany from Nazi rule, and his childhood memories of the generosity of troops stationed in his hometown of Heidelberg, provided the impetus for the contribution.
