Just about every cause has a celebrity backer, an arrangement that can bring needed news-media attention—and money—to nonprofit organizations, says CNN.
But a few observers think the trend has its downsides. Sometimes the star factor can overwhelm a cause, and celebrity demands can also drive up the cost of events, says Rachel Weingarten, a publicist and event organizer who heads GTK Marketing Group.
