CHARITIES AND AMERICA ONLINE

March 4, 2006

America Online announced on Friday that it will not charge fees to charities that send bulk e-mail messages, Reuters reports. The decision comes after many nonprofit groups said they were concerned by America Online’s plans to charge mailers for a service that would authenticate messages and deliver them. The nonprofit groups said they feared that the fees would make it too expensive for them to communicate with their supporters. The company said its plans to charge bulk mailers were aimed at commercial mailers.
