October 2, 2003 | Read Time: 1 minute
September 11: Perspectives From the Field of Philanthropy, Volume 2,is a collection of interviews with executives of charities and foundations that contributed to relief efforts after the 2001 terrorist attacks. Several focus on the many ways that nonprofit organizations provided immediate aid to the families of people who died in the attacks as well as mental-health and other services to meet the long-term needs of rescue workers and others affected by the attacks. Additional interviews discuss news-media criticism of some charities, such as the American Red Cross, and offer suggestions on how charities could better explain their allocation of donations to guard against bad press in the future. The book also predicts how nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and donors will respond to future acts of terrorism.
