Charities Concerned About Change in Federal Fund-Raising Drive

May 31, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

Nonprofit organizations that participate in the federal government’s annual charity drive are worried that they will see a drop in donations because of changes to how federal employees choose the charities they want to support, reports The Washington Post.

By the end of June, the Combined Federal Campaign’s charities will get new five-digit identification codes to replace the four-digit ones federal employees currently use to identify the groups they want to support. The campaign is making the switch because it was running out of four-digit codes and needed to create a new database to make sure charities are in compliance with Internal Revenue Service rules.
