Charities Face Instability as Boomers Near Retirement

Organizations throughout the nonprofit sector are bracing for a tough shift, reports The Philadelphia Inquirer, as aging leaders in the baby-boom generation move toward retirement.

A report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation three years ago found that two-thirds of 2,200 executive directors expected to leave their organizations by 2009.

Still, many charities have focused more on programs than on grooming future leaders, leading to a lack of potential replacements, the Inquirer reports.
