Charities Prepare for Hurricane Season
June 2, 2006
The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army have recruited additional volunteers and sought to improve their communications systems as the 2006 hurricane season gets under way, reports Bloomberg.
On the heels of the most active hurricane season on record, the Salvation Army increased training of volunteers and bolstered community and corporate partnerships.
The Red Cross said it planned to have six times the storage space for emergency-relief supplies than it has had in the past. It said that doing so would allow the organization to serve one million families after a storm.
