Charity Auction Offers Up Lunch With Warren Buffett

June 29, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Warren Buffett, the billionaire investor and chief executive of Berkshire Hathaway, in Omaha, is raising money for charity again this year by auctioning on eBay the chance to have lunch with him, The San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the Glide Foundation, which provides social services to homeless and poor people in San Francisco, as will the fees eBay usually charges for running such auctions.

Bids on a lunch started at $50,100 and topped off 10 bids later at $502,400 on Tuesday—well above the $351,100 winning bid last year. Bidding closes today. Earlier this week, Mr. Buffett made national news by announcing that he will distribute the bulk of his fortune through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Buffett has been participating in the auction since 2000.
