Charity Award Presented for Foreign-Service Work

The Associates of the American Foreign Service Worldwide has presented the Secretary of State’s Award to five State Department employees and spouses for good works done abroad, reports The Washington Post.
The recipients are:
Steven Carroll, who collected clothes and money for children in orphanages in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Kathy Hansen, who assisted with the adoption of Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese children, as well as worked for churches and schools.
Marian McGowan, who taught English and served as a mentor at Jackie’s House, a home for 36 disadvantaged children in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Nelda Villines, who distributed food, supplies, and teddy bears at various hospitals and schools in Swaziland.
Thomas Yazdgerdi, who helped impoverished immigrants in Greece, assisted in the renovation of a daycare center, and organized a charity concert in Greece to raise money for Katrina victims.
