A crash during a bus race to raise money for a youth charity killed a Florida sheriff on his 47th birthday, reports The Associated Press.
On the 12th lap of a 15-lap race, Chris Daniels Sr. lost control of his bus, one of seven on the racetrack at the time. The driver of each bus, all former or current law-enforcement officers, were wearing helmets and seat belts, and it was unclear how Mr. Daniels died. The buses were set so they could not top 50 miles per hour.
The race, canceled immediately after the crash, took place on Saturday night in Lake County, Fla. It was an annual event to raise money for Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches.
