Charity Creates Public-Interest Site

June 8, 2006

A nonprofit organization in Washington is planning to create an easy-to-navigate Web site with information on topics like public safety, emergency services, education, health, and economic opportunities, reports The Washington Post.

One Economy plans to work with governments and other charities, and it hopes to start pilot programs of its Public Internet Channel project in the next year in Baltimore, New Orleans, and San Francisco. The organization estimates the project will cost about $10-million to $12-million, and is setting a goal of raising $20-million to start the project, the Post reports.
