Charity Navigator Hires Top Fundraiser, Broad Foundation Names New President

Shannon McCracken, vice president for donor development at Special Olympics International, will join the nonprofit watchdog on September 6 as its chief development officer. She been at Special Olympics for 17 years.

Ms. McCracken has also resigned as chairwoman of the Direct Marketing Association Nonprofit Federation’s advisory council.

Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation

Gerun Riley,senior vice president for the foundation, was appointed its president.

Association of Zoos and Aquariums

Daniel Ashe, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was named chief executive.

Maine Health Access Foundation

Barbara Leonard,vice president for programs, was promoted to chief executive.

Union Station Homeless Services

John Brauer, chief executive of NW Works, a Virginia-based nonprofit that helps people with disabilities, was appointed chief executive.

Other notable changes:

Alan Cooper, executive director of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, will retire in May.

Brian Hervey will be vice chancellor for university advancement at the University of California at Irvine. He has held the position on an interim basis since November.

Jessie Spector, executive director of Resource Generation, will step down in January.

Legacy:

Pamela Hartigan, director of the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Oxford’s Said Business School, died on August 12 in France. Ms. Hartigan was also a founding partner at Volans Ventures, an organization that develops innovative solutions to social and environmental challenges. She was 68.
