The Nature Conservancy won the “Best Charity” title at the Shorty Awards, which honors outstanding efforts on Twitter and other social networks. The awards are given by the Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences, a group of leaders in technology, journalism, business, and culture.

Other finalists nominated as the best charity were Charity: Water and Oxfam International.

In addition, the Nature Conservancy announced that it has joined WeChat USA, which makes a mobile-communications app, to simultaneously attract new supporters and raise money. Until June 30, WeChat USA will donate $5 to the group, up to $1-million, every time someone downloads the WeChat app and follows the nonprofit’s “nature_org” account.

The account provides followers with photos that are easy to share and tips on acting in environmentally responsible ways. So far, 4,200 people have joined, says Amy Ganderson, the charity’s director of digital marketing.
