At least two dozen workers for the Iraqi Red Crescent were attacked in Iraq by gunmen and kidnapped on Sunday, reports The Washington Post.
Maazen Abdullah, secretary-general of the Society, said, “We have suspended our operations in Baghdad until all the hostages are released,” reports Reuters. So far, 17 hostages have been released.
The Iraqi Red Crescent Society is the only Iraqi aid organization working in the country’s 18 provinces.
