Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:

Negaunee Foundation

$10 million to the Chicago Botanic Garden to endow conservation science research and programs.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation

$7.5 million to Marywood University to expand the Sisters Leadership Development Initiative’s work to offer leadership training for Catholic nuns in 10 African countries.

FedEx

$5 million pledge to Kent State University to build an aeronautics academic center at the Kent State University Airport.

Open Society Foundations

$5 million challenge grant to Open Government Partnership to scale up its work to advance transparency in government decisions.


W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Kresge Foundation, and PNC

$2.5 million to IFF to bolster early-childhood education programs in Detroit. The Kresge Foundation gave $1 million for efforts specifically in the Livernois-McNichols neighborhood. PNC also gave the nonprofit group $1 million to improve the quality of early-childhood education facilities. Additionally, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation granted $500,000 to support up to 12 high-quality child-care providers.

Lettie Pate Evans Foundation and Trailsend Foundation

$2 million to the American Cancer Society to renovate and expand its free housing for cancer patients in Atlanta and their families. Each foundation gave $1 million.

Morgan Stanley

$1.9 million to Feeding America for operations and to support food banks in 21 cities.

Ford Foundation

$1.5 million to the University of California at Los Angeles for a national media campaign and research efforts to illustrate the challenges facing children and youth from immigrant families, undocumented immigrants, and low-wage workers. The grant will be shared equally between the Institute for Immigration, Globalization, and Education and the UCLA Labor Center.

GSK

$1.5 million over three years to Save the Children to enhance its ability to respond to natural disasters in the United States and provide aid to affected children.


Boeing Charitable Trust

$1 million to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for its educational fund, which aims to increase the proportion of women and minority students in science and engineering programs.

New Grant Opportunity

The Highlands Cashiers Health Foundation is accepting applications in its first grant cycle following the $1 billion sale of Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Mission Health to HCA Corporation. Nonprofit groups that serve people in western North Carolina may apply for grants in the areas of health-care access, education, community well-being, and poverty. Applications are due June 15.
