Chicago Parks Group Renews Legal Fight Against Lucas Museum

The nonprofit preservation group seeking to block movie mogul George Lucas’s planned $300-million lakefront museum in Chicago filed an amended lawsuit Friday, three weeks after a judge warned that a project redesign could render the organization’s original legal complaint invalid, the Chicago Tribune reports.
In the new suit, Friends of the Park reiterates its arguments that a ground lease agreement with the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art requires state rather than city approval and a privately held museum on publicly owned waterfront is not in Chicago residents’ best interests. The museum unveiled a scaled-back blueprint for the proposed attraction last month, reducing its footprint from 400,000 to 300,000 square feet and adding parkland and outdoor amenities.
