Chicago Schools Get $21-Million From Gates Foundation
April 19, 2006
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded $21-million to the Chicago Public Schools system to establish more rigorous curricula, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Tom Vander Ark, executive director of education for the Gates Foundation, said that too little attention has been paid to creating challenging curricula, which leads to poor college preparation and high drop-out rates because students are often bored in class.
