About the transition: Rod Arnold, 43, left Charity: Water this month after two years as chief operating officer. He will become a senior vice president at Media Ventures Group, a New York City consulting company.

Previous jobs: Worked with Teen Mania, an evangelical Christian group in Texas that organizes rallies and overseas summer outreach trips for teenagers. By the end of his 10-year stint Mr. Arnold had become vice president of strategy and marketing.

His next step: Drawing on his experience in online fund raising and marketing, Mr. Arnold says he hopes to help nonprofits expand their operations and raise more money. The job change will also allow him to work remotely so he can spend more time with his family in South Dakota.

Biggest accomplishment: Creating My Charity: Water, an online site started at the end of 2009 that enables supporters to raise money for the organization through social networks. Online donations now account for nearly 70 percent of Charity: Water’s fund-raising total.

Biggest challenge: Managing growth and increased expectations for Charity: Water. While the group’s revenue grew by an average of 61 percent a year under Mr. Arnold, that growth also meant increased costs. The organization promises to show donors, within 18 months, photos and GPS coordinates of the villages that are supported by their donations. It also promises to use 100 percent of donations earmarked for the water projects for direct expenses (there is a separate effort to raise money for operating expenses).

Salary: He declined to say.
