A Baptist church in Summit, N.J., has pledged $1-million to recovery efforts for the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, reports the Religion News Service.
Members of the Fountain Baptist Church raised the money last weekend during a fund-raising effort. The Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, in Washington, received the pledge and will use the money for a variety of programs in the Gulf Coast region.
The church designated $400,000 for job- and life-skills training for 200 families in Louisiana and Mississippi; $300,000 to help pastors whose churches suffered damage to their facilities, deaths of parishioners, or relocations; $200,000 for housing and local projects; and $100,000 for general and administrative costs.
