City College of New York Announces New $290 Million Foundation (Grants Roundup)

Here are notable new grant awards compiled by the Chronicle:
Foundation for City College
$290 million pledge to the City College of New York to enhance students’ access to educational and research programs, particularly among black students and those from low-income families. The foundation’s endowment comes from the recent consolidation of the 21st Century Foundation and the City College Fund.
Tipping Point Community
$20 million to Better Futures for Foster Youth to change public policy and programs that help youths who have aged out of foster care to secure stable housing, pursue higher education, and access to support services in San Francisco’s Bay Area.
Duke Endowment
$12 million to Duke University to strengthen Christian leadership programs at Duke Divinity School, and to develop new research and bolster local and global faith communities.
Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation
$10 million to Detroit’s Strategic Neighborhood Fund to promote new housing, jobs, small businesses, and entrepreneurship within the city.
GameAbove
$8 million to Eastern Michigan University to build a new golf training facility.
Lincy Foundation
$5 million to the University of Nevada at Las Vegas for an endowed chair within its Greenspun College of Urban Affairs.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
$4.5 million over three years to OneGoal for a pilot program that will work with school districts to deliver programs in self-discovery, social-emotional learning, test preparation, and college and career planning for students from low-income communities.
Google.org
$4 million to create a grant-making fund at ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability that will support nonprofit groups and academic institutions in Europe and Latin America pursuing data-driven climate action efforts.
Davee Foundation
$3 million to the University of Illinois at Chicago’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to endow scholarships for high-achieving English and history undergraduate students who come from low-income families.
Kern Family Foundation
$1.7 million to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota to enhance the curriculum for school administrators in its School of Education Character and Virtue Initiative.
New Grant Opportunity
The Gerber Foundation is now accepting letters of inquiry for grants of up to $350,000 each over three years to support research on pediatric health, pediatric nutrition, and the effects of environmental hazards on children under the age of 3. The deadline for applications is May 15.
