According to Fox News, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s inquiry into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state has broadened to look at whether Clinton Foundation donations and State Department contracts may have intersected in a way that violated public corruption laws.
Fox said it was unclear whether the FBI had begun its inquiry of Ms. Clinton with the email matter or questions about the charity, and whether findings in the two issues will eventually be combined and presented before a grand jury.
In an interview with the Des Moines Register‘s editorial board on Monday, Ms. Clinton, the leading Democratic presidential candidate, denied any such FBI investigation. Fox News sources said the FBI does not have to notify the subjects of an investigation.
Ms. Clinton’s presidential campaign has been blighted by questions about potential conflicts of interest between her State Department role and her family’s charity, which she formally joined after leaving the Obama administration and left when she launched her White House bid.
