Coca-Cola Giving Expected to Focus on Environment and Fitness

April 17, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Coca-Cola Company, in Atlanta, is probably changing its charitable-giving priorities, the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

The newspaper says it obtained internal documents that show the company plans to focus on three causes in its giving: keeping water clean and plentiful, recycling and promoting environmentally friendly packaging, and fitness. The company previously devoted a lot of its support to education and promoting diversity.

The company also plans to eliminate Coca-Cola’s long-standing corporate external-affairs department. In its place, the company is creating a new oversight division called Global Community Connections. The shift may lead to additional changes in how Coca-Cola gives locally, nationally, and internationally.

The company told The Chronicle it was not prepared to announce any changes and would verify only that the internal documents obtained by the newspaper were real.
