College Guide for the Civic-Minded Student

August 4, 2005 | Read Time: 1 minute

Colleges With a Conscience: 81 Great Schools With Outstanding Community Involvement, provides students interested in community service with information on colleges that emphasize civic participation along with academics. In addition to typical college-guidebook fare, such as statistics on admissions, students, and faculty members, this guide describes campus centers and programs that work to connect students with the neighborhoods around them. The book surveys how pervasive community activism is on campus and investigates the effects of civic participation on campus culture and student life. It also lists scholarships and other financial support available to students who participate in community service. The book was produced in collaboration with Campus Compact, a coalition of university and college presidents committed to incorporating civic learning into college life.
