‘Condom King’ Wins Gates Award for Global Health

Mechai Viravaidya, known as the “Condom King” of Thailand, has won the Gates Award for Global Health for his work on AIDS prevention and family planning, reports Agence France Presse.
The award, paid for by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, recognizes efforts to improve health in developing countries and is the world’s biggest prize for international health.
Mr. Viravaidya is the founder and chairman of the Population and Community Development Association and will receive a $1-million cash prize with the award.
