Congressmen Urge Release of Chinese Charity Official
April 11, 2006
More than 100 members of Congress have pressed President Bush to help secure the release of Yang Jianli, president of the Foundation for China in the 21st Century, in Boston, Reuters reports. Mr. Yang has been in a Chinese jail since 2002, when he was accused by China of spying for Taiwan. The lawmakers are asking President Bush to appeal for Mr. Yang’s release when he meets with Chinese President Hu Jintao this week in Washington.
