Contemporary-Art Museum’s New Director Says Change Will Take Time

March 20, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Philippe Vergne,, the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Los Angeles, plans no immediate changes to the program, writes the Los Angeles Timess Arts & Culture section.

“The most important priority is to look at the programming and reimagine the program,” he said.

This slower approach to planning and Vergne’s relationship with the museum staff differs from the style of his predecessor, Jeffrey Deitch, a hands-on director who often organized shows quickly. Before officially taking over his job on March 10, Mr. Vergne says, there were three days in which “I spent every single minute of my time meeting with the staff and trustees.”

Philippe Vergne was formerly director of New York’s Dia Art Foundation and top curator and deputy director of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.
