Council on Foundations Opens Arms to Blog Writers

April 11, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Council on Foundations is inviting the author of Tactical Philanthropy, Sean Stannard-Stockton, and other bloggers who write about grant making to cover its annual conference this month in Seattle.

Mr. Stannard-Stockton, a California philanthropy adviser, says the conference marks the first time the council has provided press passes to blog writers.

He says the council is making an important statement by welcoming bloggers. But it is still too soon to tell just how much influence blogs will have on foundations, he says.

“So what is the role of philanthropy bloggers on the broader philanthropic landscape? Are we fringe commentators or will the conversation that we are developing here be one that, as the council states, ‘guides philanthropy in its grant making’?,” Mr. Stannard-Stockton writes.

As an addendum, Mr. Stannard-Stockton has amplified his thoughts on how blogs are influencing philanthropy with this new post

Is the increased attention to blogs creating a better discussion about philanthropy? What role should bloggers play in the nonprofit world? Share your thoughts by clicking on the comments link just below this posting.
