Melvin Simon, an Indianapolis real-estate developer, and his wife, Bren, have pledged $50-million to the Indiana University Cancer Center, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, reports The Indianapolis Star.
Half of the gift will be used to bring in as many as 10 new cancer researchers to the center and keep current researchers there. The other half will expand the lab space, to 125,000 square feet. Some of the money could be used to study cancer prevention, said the center’s director, Stephen D. Williams.
