What do young professionals want from nonprofits?
Fundraisers, volunteer coordinators, and communications directors at charities across the country would love to tap into the passion and resources young people have to give to causes that matter to them. But it’s not always easy to reach busy young adults who have demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and lots of digital distractions.
We gathered three folks from the Washington, D.C., area who volunteer with or donate to charities and asked them about their preferences when working with nonprofits and what strategies organizations should use to catch their attention.
Chris Blackwood, 34, founded Grassroots Comedy DC after the 2016 presidential election. The organization hosts monthly comedy shows whose proceeds support charities working on issues in the news.
L. Conette Burney, 34, and her family founded two organizations, Prd2BMe Foundation and the Ryan’s Group, both to help disadvantaged youths in the D.C. area.
Brittany Dewberry, 28, volunteers with Northern Virginia Family Service and International Rescue Committee.
