The Foundation Directory 1999, 21st Edition
Editor, Jeffrey A. Falkenstein
Assistant Editor, David G. Jacobs

This new edition profiles 10,445 private, community, and corporate foundations that hold assets of at least $2-million or that award $200,000 or more each year. It includes 2,181 entries that did not appear in the 1998 edition.

According to the Foundation Center, those 10,445 funds — while representing less than one-fourth of all active U.S. foundations — manage more than $304-billion in assets and donate over $14.3-billion annually, or 90 per cent of all U.S. foundation giving.

Individual entries provide the following information: address, phone number, financial data, type of foundation, types of support provided, and application information. Approximately one-third of the entries also include a sampling of previously awarded grants. The entries are organized by state. The information is also indexed in several ways, including by donors, officers, and trustees; grant subject; and types of support given.

The Foundation Center also publishes The Foundation Directory Part 2, which covers 5,745 mid-sized foundations that hold assets of at least $1-million and give between $50,000 and $200,000 annually. Together those funds command a total of $5.7-billion in assets and disburse more than $449-million each year.
