Drunken Bet Leads to Big Donation

December 4, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

An accountant in Sheffield, England, has fulfilled a promise he made—at a pub after having enjoyed a few pints—to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as a way to raise money for a local greyhound charity, reports the Yorkshire Post.

Nigel Troth, 45, slept through sub-zero nights and fought off freezing rain and snow on his seven-day hike to the top, which he completed with a few friends. The trek raised almost $14,000 for Owlerton Stadium’s Retired Greyhounds Fund.

“I’ve never climbed a mountain before and I never will again,” said Mr. Troth. “I’m really pleased to have done this for the fund, but it was very, very, hard.”
