EAST AFRICAN DROUGHT
February 23, 2006
Oxfam has raised only $168-million of the $574-million that the group says it needs for emergency food aid following a drought in East Africa, reports Reuters. Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia were the countries worst off from the drought, and 11 million Africans would be affected by the potential famine. “Firm commitments from rich countries to fund the response to the food crisis in East Africa are not being made quickly enough,” the organization said in a statement.
