Eli Broad Donates $10.5-Million for Schools

November 30, 2006

One of America’s most generous donors has given $10.5-million to a charter-school organization in California, reports The Los Angeles Times.

The gift will be used to support the organization’s expansion.

Green Dot Public Schools, which operates 10 high schools with maximum enrollments of around 500 students, plans to open 21 new high schools and enroll 10 percent of students now registered in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Mr. Broad is one of America’s 60 biggest donors, as tabulated in an annual-giving survey conducted by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
