Eli Broad’s Los Angeles Museum Pushes Back Opening to 2015

After long touting an opening by the end of this year for billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad’s new downtown Los Angeles art museum, project officials have pushed back the scheduled launch to an unspecified date in 2015, reports The New York Times.

Construction of the $140-million museum, which began in 2012, has been delayed by complications in creating one of the Diller Scofidio & Renfro design’s signature features, a honeycombed concrete-and-steel structure that will wrap around the building, said Broad Foundation spokeswoman Karen Denne.

The free-entry museum to be called the Broad, will house the vast contemporary-art collection amassed by Mr. Broad and his wife, Edythe. Ms. Denne said a new opening date will be announced last this year.
