Purpose: Established in 1996 by Van Jones, a lawyer, to provide legal aid and other assistance to victims of police misconduct in California’s Bay Area. The center recently opened an affiliate to do similar work in New York City.
Finances: The group expects to bring in $300,000 this year, mainly from foundations, corporations, and individuals.
