Emory University has announced that it has received $261.5-million from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, one of the largest donations ever made to an institution of higher education, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The money will be used for outpatient care facilities at the university’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center, to create a presidential fund, and to renovate the Woodruff Health Sciences Administration Building.
This is not the first time the foundation has made large gifts to Emory. In 1979 Mr. Woodruff, who led the Coca-Cola Company, and his brother George donated $105-million. In 1996, the foundation gave $295-million to endow the Health Sciences Center.
