Essays on Nonprofit Boards

January 22, 2004 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Best of Board Cafe: Hands-On Solutions for Nonprofit Boards, by Jan Masaoka, presents articles about nonprofit boards that originally appeared in a newsletter published by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services, a San Francisco consulting and training company for nonprofit organizations. Ms. Masaoka, executive director of CompassPoint, compiled the essays, many of them written by her, which were revised to incorporate advice from the newsletter’s readers. The book offers suggestions to help board members and charity executives work well together. It covers how to evaluate charity directors, deal with transitions from one leader to another, and determine their salaries. Other sections discuss fund raising, finances, investment management, tax forms, insurance, and the recruitment of new board members.
