Event Brings Together Developers for Social Good

  • The Nonprofit Software Development Summit, in Oakland, Calif., on November 18-20 will bring together programmers and developers who are building or interested in building software and Web tools for charities and social-justice causes. For more information: Go to http://www.aspirationtech.org.
  • Google Flu Trends now tracks the illness in 20 countries and is available in 37 languages. The Mountain View, Calif., company analyzes the popularity of flu-related queries on its search engine to provide real-time estimates of flu activity. To get there: Go to http://www.google.org/flutrends.
  • Eligible nonprofit organizations and public libraries can request Windows 7 upgrades for $8 per work station for the professional upgrade and $9 per work station for the enterprise upgrade through TechSoup. Educational institutions, political and religious organizations, healthcare networks, and private foundations do not qualify for Microsoft product donations.
