The online social-networking site Facebook.com has announced it will allow organizations that promote social and political causes to offer services on the site, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
The announcement was made after the Web site reached an agreement with the entrepreneurs Joe Green and Sean Parker to create “Project Agape,” a service that will enable Facebook members to highlight charities, invite friends and other members to join their networks, and raise money through their networks for any charity in America.
Members’ profiles will tabulate how many people they have recruited and how much money they have raised for their charities.
Says Mr. Green, “People our age never get asked to give money. Yet they are an idealistic, impassioned group that wants to get involved.”
