Families of 9/11 Victims Have Founded Charities

Many of the family members of the people killed in the September 11, 2001, attacks have founded charities, scholarship funds, and relief organizations in the past five years, The Washington Post reports.

Most of the organizations started with a few people and very modest means, but some of the charities quickly accumulated money and members, the newspaper says.

One group, One Day’s Pay, which asks people to spend a day performing community service each year, has attracted three million participants, according to its founders. And the Families of September 11 has become a powerful voice pushing for investigations into the attacks and the federal government’s response to them.
